McLean has an excellent public library system with excellent reference and Internet capabilities. Dranesville District also offers a host of activities for outdoors enthusiasts, and is home to almost 500 acres of public open space and 64 parks — including Great Falls National Park, Claude Moore Colonial Farm, Scotts Run Nature Preserve, Turner Farm, Riverbend, McLean Central and Clemyjontri Parks — as well as the Pimmit Run, Difficult Run and Sugarland Run stream valleys. Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts (the only National Park in the country dedicated to the performing arts) is also in the Dranesville District. We have an extensive network of trails, including the historic W & OD Trail (built on the roadbed of the former Washington & Old Dominion Railroad), which provides 45 miles of paved paths and 32 miles of horse trails through the urban heartland and countryside of Northern Virginia. We are home to numerous sports organizations for all ages, and our Spring Hill Recreation Center offers swimming, exercise classes, and indoor and outdoor recreational amenities for the whole family.
The Greater McLean area is a major hub for the Dranesville District. Our families possess a strong sense of community commitment, and there are many opportunities to volunteer one’s time. There is an abundance of planned events throughout the year for people of all ages — including McLean Day, Fourth of July celebrations, and summer concerts on the green in McLean Central Park. A variety of cultural, civic, educational and recreational activities are always ongoing at the McLean Community Center and Spring Hill Recreation Center. The Fire-House Teen Center offers our young people a safe environment in which they enjoy educational and recreational activities.
